 | BRIDGE YEAR PROGRAM | | |
Lateral Link's new Bridge Year Program is taking off! Through the BYP, we are arranging "apprenticeship" opportunities with our in-house clients for Lateral Link Members who have been affected by reductions in force. In addition to a potential permanent job offer at the end of the program, participating Members receive a stipend and the opportunity to develop new in-house connections and stronger legal skills that will expand their employment opportunities when the market turns around.
Since the program's launch two weeks ago, we have seen an extremely positive response from our Members and employers. Currently, there are over 30 attorneys interviewing for BYP positions at industry-leading companies. In the last week alone, four attorneys accepted BYP positions.

 | SOCIAL MEDIA IN THE LEGAL MARKETPLACE | |
Last Thursday, Lateral Link sponsored a panel on “Social Media in the Legal Marketplace.” Panel participants included Elie Mystal of Above the Law, Michael Allen of Lateral Link, and Larry Bodine of Apollo Business Development.
The panelists spoke to a packed house of 100 attorneys and legal marketing professionals at the Hilton Ballroom in Charlotte, NC. The panel explored how legal blogs and other web resources have become a vital source of law firm information for attorneys. Panelists also discussed how firms and attorneys can use these resources to shape their images in the legal community, from both a career development and business development standpoint.
Elie Mystal warned attendees of the dangers of posting non-professional information online and stressed that the contents of a Facebook or LinkedIn account can be easily accessed by colleagues, future employers, or clients. Additionally, Larry Bodine suggested having colleagues or clients fill out the recommendation section on one's LinkedIn profile to lend credibility. Lastly, Michael Allen recommended building out connections on LinkedIn through school and work contacts, in order to expand one's network for business development and career opportunities. | | | |
